Bomber Jacket

If there's one jacket that should be in every man's closet, it's a classic leather jacket. These jackets have been made in various styles throughout the years, and they've all been able to make anybody look effortlessly cool. You still need to know how to wear a leather jacket though, which is where this guide will come in handy.

The Origins of the Leather Jacket

When most people picture leather jackets, what probably comes to mind are the tough coats that bikers have worn since the 1920s. While these jackets are definitely iconic, the first leather jackets were actually worn by German pilots during World War I. These jackets are known to this day as leather bomber jackets, and they were intended to give pilots an extra layer of protection. Upon seeing how practical the German leather bomber jackets were, clothing designer Irving Schott began manufacturing the Perfecto in 1928 for bikers in the United States.

By the 1950s, leather jackets had been adopted by Hollywood as a symbol of rugged manliness and rebellion. Stars like James Dean and Marlon Brando appeared with their iconic jackets in their movies, and the jackets soon became synonymous with the rebellious "greaser" culture of the time.

Leather jackets also become extremely popular in the music industry. Artists as diverse as the Beatles, Duran Duran and Blondie all wore leather jackets in diverse styles. Supermodels of the 90s adopted leather jackets as part of the punk, alternative rock style that was so prevalent at the time.

These days, leather jackets don't have the same rebellious connotations that they once did. There are still definitely some rugged styles out there, but there are also just as many that are suitable for high society. Depending on what kind of jacket you wear and how you wear it, you can go out to a five-star restaurant or a tough biker bar and not look the least bit out of place.

Wearing a Leather Jacket

The classic leather bomber jacket and the tough motorcycle jacket have evolved since they were first invented. There are still plenty of bikers who wear leather for protection, but modern jackets make for great all-purpose wear. A biker jacket looks great when combined with a t-shirt and jeans, and a leather bomber jacket like an A2 leather bomber jacket can be worn with a more semi-casual outfit. Since most of these jackets are either black or brown, they go perfectly with anything, it doesn't need much dressing up,

A Worthy Investment

Purchasing a leather bomber jacket or a biker jacket is definitely a good investment. A real leather A2 bomber jacket will cost hundreds of dollars, but the investment is well worth while as they are very stylish and practical. Whether you're wearing a bomber jacket that harkens back to World War I or a motorcycle jacket straight out of the 1950s, you can wear a leather jacket with almost any style during any season.
